Last Sunday, myself and my husband Michael spent the afternoon in Newcastle on our Valentines date.

Michael has been very eager to go to COOP Chicken House; a place that sells, well, chicken…and not much else!

If you wanna take a gander at their menu, you can find it here. If you decide not to peruse, understand that the menu is very straight forward….you can buy chicken by either the quarter, half or full bird, and can pick from a series of sides to accompany it.

You can decide on a salad instead if you so wish, and they offer this as either a chicken salad or a vegetarian.

They also offer a large selection of sauces to have with your chicken, ranging from mild to those so spicy, you actually have to sign a disclaimer form before you sample it.

I, of course, HAD to try the once that required you to sign on the dotted line!

Proof of which is here:

In my infinite wisdom, I didn’t take pictures of the chicken. My husband very kindly filmed me as I tried my sauces however.

I tried two sauces… Chilli Pepper Pete’s Mega Hot Sauce, and after that, it’s soon to be replacement on the menu.

I’ll let the videos do the talking!

Would I go back to COOP? Definitely. The chicken was divine; it was succulent and the seasoning was perfect. I don’t usually eat skin, or in that fact chicken on the bone in general. I would happily eat that chicken again and again though.

The sides were average. The fries were nice enough, as was the ratatouille, but they didn’t set the world alight. The star of the show was, quite rightly, the chicken.

And I suppose the hot sauce!
